Moving iWeb Sites to a Different Computer

Migrating from one computer to another is always a pain. There's a great tool built into Macs called migration assistant. It's primary function is to help you move everything from an old computer to a new computer. (I do mean everything!) Sometimes, though, you just need to move a few things- perhaps an iPhoto library, or an iWeb site. Migration Assistant may not be the best tool to accomplish that.

According to iWeb Help, to move an iWeb site, you need to look for the file: Library/Application/Support/iWeb/ in your user folder. I haven't found the file Library/Application. I did find Library/Application Support/iWeb and the domain file was there. On the Apple Support web page on the same topic, it did refer to file I found, so I suspect the Help has an error in it.

I also suspect not only will this file need to be moved, but the actual files will need to be moved as well, if you are publishing to a folder rather than a .Mac account. I'll be working on this with Beth Tovi, at King
Springs Elementary soon, so watch for updates on this.

iPhoto looks to be less of a problem, in that simply copying the iPhoto library to a new computer should do the trick. I expect iTunes, because of Digital Rights Management, will be much more of a problem.

CyberDuck is our approved FTP client. Translation: It's what you're supposed to use to upload web pages you create IF you aren't using a dot Mac account. Atomic Learning won't help you, but CyberDuck will!

We have requested that Atomic Learning create a tutorial.

iWeb and Basic Web Design

iWeb is a great application to help you create a website for your class. The first link below will help you find help on Atomic Learning. The other links I found on the web when I searched "web design basics" There are tons of resources out there for you to learn about design effects for your website.

Updates and additions..

We're still updating, adding, and reconfiguring the website.  iDVD was just updated with information on how to create multiple copies of your iDVD project.

Also, expect an announcement any day about classes for this summer.  We are planning to offer our iNtegrating iLife iNto iLearning course.  There is a second course planned that will extend the learning even further!

Links from this summer

I had a note from someone in class about emails with links we sent from class having been inadvertently deleted along with the deluge of spam and other email that builds up over the summer this morning.  Here are the links I emailed:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107472
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=52364
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iWeb/1.1/en/bld1024.html

They all involve password protection for your .Mac web pages and data on your .Mac account.

I'll ask Mike to look back through his sent items for any he may have sent.
