Introduction

Mike4Hi, I am Mike Quinn. I am a Technology Integration Specialist for Cobb County. I am assigned to Area 5 schools and Mabry Middle. I have taught grades 6-12 and have worked as in Integration Specialist with grades 4 to 8. Previously, I have been an Integration Specialist in Maine with the Maine Learning Technology Initiative as well as the lead teacher for Waterville Public Schools. I also taught a Windows Computer Class for grades 6 through 8. We hope that we can be of assistance to teachers that need help with integration. I believe that teachers need to use the tools and resources that best help students learn. I am looking forward to working with you in the future.

Dsc02851_1 Welcome fellow Mac users! I have been legally teaching 27 years, anywhere from grades K through 12.  Even though science and math are my content favorites, my passion is the integration of technology to increase the academic achievement of all students across the curriculum.

My journey with technology began 22 years ago with an Apple IIe and no Internet connection.  I had been teaching 5 years before this strange thing appeared in my classroom.  But, being the lifelong learner that I am, I signed up for any courses I could find so that I could use that machine.  Just when I was getting comfortable, I transferred to a school that was converting to a PC platform.  Oh my!  Within the next 5 years, technology was an integral part of the middle school science program.  I am eternally causing problems with integration, because the curriculum I wrote, caused the high school technology courses to change.

I graduated in 2001 with a Masters in Technology Integration from Southern Illinois University.  During my second year at SIU, I came back to work on Apple computers because the university had only 1 PC and 2 Apple labs.  That made me wonder why!  After working 1 day on an eMac I knew the answer.  But, I know the importance of being versatile and consider myself a dual platform instructor.  I serve schools that are both PC and Mac.

I have a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful children! My children are dual platform users, but of course our home is an Apple household.  They follow in their mother's footsteps and cause their teachers to investigate new technologies in their classes.  My husband is just starting to use the computer and he only knows  Mac.  Lucky man!

Welcome to this great adventure with iNtegrating iLife iTo iLearning!!  I am glad to travel this journey with you!

Introduction

Anita2 Hi! I am Anita Foster. I am the newbie in the group! I am also the token elementary teacher!! I graduated from Lee College (now University) in Tennessee. I began my teaching career in Florida and I have taught Kindergarten, first grade, third grade and computer lab (K-5). I have used a Mac for most of my professional career. I was a Technology Specialist at a school in Florida that was a 1-to-1 school. So, every student in third through fifth grades had their own laptop to use in the classroom. It was a wonderful experience and I really learned a lot during my time there. I left that wonderful school to become a Technology Specialist for the Georgia Department of Education. However, I really missed working with students and teachers. I was offered this posisition September 2006...and I LOVE IT!! I can work with students and teachers integrating technology. I have worked with teachers to develop units integrating technology...and I get to work with other professionals that promote the use of technology in the classroom! When I miss my Kindergarteners...I just visit a classroom for a few minutes and get my "fix" and then I am good to go!!

I also have a son who will begin Kindergarten in Cobb county soon and I look forward to advancing technology as a parent. He has been using computers since he was about a year old...and he now teaches his grandparents about the computer!! My husband is a computer programmer...so I guess this passion for technology runs deep in our house!!

I look forward to working with you and helping you in the trainings and in your classroom if needed. Please feel free to email me and check out my blog .

Introduction

MeHi! I'm Herman Wood, a Technology Integration Specialist with the district. I used to teach Physical Science, Physics, and Chemistry in the district. My introduction to using technology in education came as I was working on my undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia (woof!). A whole room of Apple IIe's was set up for us to use in the College of Education. We were introduced to AppleWorks and given the opportunity to write programs in DOS. During the early part of my career, I usually found one or two Apple II's somewhere in the building and tried to help them find their way to my classroom for my students to use.
In my current position, I facilitate the integration of technology into student learning. We use a variety of tools to do this, but my favorite is a Mac! I guess you might say that "I'm a Mac."
I'll be using this space to share ways to help you integrate your Mac into student learning. Please contribute via comments on each post or email me directly with questions or suggestions. Please visit often!
